‘Barcelona president rejected me because I’m Canadian’: Alphonso Davies:

Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has made a claim that Barcelona’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu did not want him to play for the Spanish club because He is “Canadian”.

The 22-year-old joined Bayern Munich from MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019 for a fee of $22m.

“Barcelona approached me but the President (Bartimaeus) didn’t want me because I’m from Canada,” Davies said in a Say Less podcast.

The Canadian also admitted that the response from the president hurt his feelings.

“This was what the press said, I don’t know if the President really said that, but I’m not going to lie, it kind of crushed my feelings,” he added.

Earlier, Davies’ agent Nadel Huoseh opened up about the rumor's linking the Canadian to Real Madrid. While talking to a renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Huoseh stated that he is a big fan of the Los Blancos.

“I’ve always been a big fan of Real Madrid, as a fan, you know 14 Champions Leagues. It makes you proud when you see someone you manage linked with Real Madrid,” he said.

“Bayern is a big club, they have treated us very well. Alphonso loves the club and the fans. He has a good relationship with the coach and the teammates.”

Huoseh also confirmed that no final decision has been made about the Canadian’s future. He will wait for the situation at Munich to settle down before resuming the negotiations with the German club.

“We haven’t made final decision. We want to see who will be the new director and what will be their plans for Alphonso. We are open to talk and we will see what happens,” he concluded.

According to a Spanish journalist Jose Felix Diaz, the Los Blancos are worried about the left-back position, which is the reason they are going for the Canadian this summer.

The Spanish club have already announced Fran Garcia and Brahim Diaz from AC Milan and Rayo Vallecano respectively as their first two signings of the summer transfer window.
